Daily Bible Reading - October 18th, 2020 | American Bible Society: Jeremiah 1:1-19: Today we will begin reading excerpts from the book of the prophet Jeremiah. The prophet Jeremiah lived during the latter part of the seventh century and first part of the sixth century B.C. During his ministry, he warned God’s people of the catastrophe that was to fall upon the nation because of their idolatry and sin. The Assyrian Empire had fallen, giving rise to the Babylonian Empire which resulted in the destruction of Judah and the exile that followed. Today’s reading introduces us to the call of Jeremiah to be a prophet and what he is commissioned to do.
